Partnership with Civil Society Institutions |
From the days of engagement of over two dozen NGOs in implementing the Women's development project in Tamil Nadu beginning in the late 1980s, IFAD has developed a very strong and one of the longest running partnerships with civil society institutions in India. IFAD recognizes the civil society institutions as one of its strongest partner and, in all its programmes currently under implementation, they play a major role in community mobilization, capacity building and demonstration of livelihood activities. The quality and performance of these institutions may not be uniform across the board, and in some of the States, the capacity of these institutions is weak so the projects utilize the services of national level resource NGOs to impart training and hand holding support through technical assistance to these smaller partners. In fact, IFAD believe that building capacity of the civil society at the local level adds to the sustainability of our interventions. |

Over the years, IFAD has nurtured and strengthened excellent partnerships with some of the good national level NGOs, to provide technical assistance in the field of microfinance, grassroots institution building, natural resource management, livelihood interventions and other development initiatives. |
