  IFAD was established in 1977 with the objective to fight rural poverty. Its mission is to “Enable poor rural people to overcome poverty”. IFAD focuses on country specific solutions, which involves increasing rural people’s access to financial services, markets, technology, land and other natural resources.

India is not only the largest recipient of IFAD's assistance, but is also one of its main donors having a permanent seat in its Executive Board.

Aajeevika is short name of Uttarakhand livelihood improvement project for the himalayas(ULIPH). It is being implemented in 11 blocks of 5 distircts (Tehri, Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli and Uttarakashi). In Jaunpur ULIPH started in 2006. Kheda Nyay Panchayat of Jaunpur block, apart from Aajeevika activities, did exceptional efforts in Jetropa plantation which covers 21 villages. The Plantation was done by Self-Helf Groups (SHGs) of women in convergence with Bio-fuel Board under Ratanjot Forestry Project (RFP).
